My name is Deepak, and I am not a Tailor.
I am a Facilitator.

The content of this site is based upon my personal opinion. Its purpose is to provide information and recommend tailor shops that I PERSONALLY CONSIDER good.

About Me:

My family, which is based in Pattaya, (also spelled as Patthaya, Pataya, Phattaya, Phatthaya) Thailand, has been in the tailor business for the last 40 years. We have always used the services of Professional Master Thai-Chinese freelancers to make both good quality and better quality clothes for us (solely depending upon the prices, due to cut-throat competition). There are different prices for different freelancers depending upon the quality of stitching and materials used. Some of them have been working with us for the last 30 years. Our part has always been to run nice well decorated retail shops, with a number of staff ranging from 1 to 20 people (not inclusive of freelance tailors) depending upon the size of the shop. Some salesmen were highly professional people those who have been in the industry for long enough to have learnt every aspect of it, but some were relatively new with only some basic knowledge of measuring and smooth talking. It was either a customer's luck or good judgment as to whom he or she gets to deal with.

As for myself, I have seen this business since my childhood. I know it is not easy to become an expert in measuring, understanding body shapes, fabrics, styles and most of all visualize how to make our customers look their best. This is where my family fits in. They have the expertise in this.

There are a lot of expenses involved in running these shops which eventually translates into high prices of suits. Prices can be made reasonable if the volume (number of suits made per month) is increased. This is possible without compromising on the quality, but only if there is a good quality control procedure.

Tailor business was fun and very lucrative some 20 years ago when we could stock fabrics of over 10 million baht (approx USD 300,000). Back then, the prices of fabrics ranged from 200 to 1800 baht per meter, but now its just impossible for us to stock large quantities of those high-end fabrics because there is no market for it and the difference of quality is not visible to the naked eye. Now the technologies are so advanced in fabric making that it has become very difficult to tell the difference between fine synthetic wool and real wool. Synthetic wool is a mixture of wool and synthetic fiber. They are easy to maintain, durable, and cost effective for you and profit effective for us, which is why they are so popular. This is the kind of material that is mostly bought and sold and carries popular generic name tags. We are selling these fabrics and there's nothing bad about them. In fact, if I am given a choice, I would prefer to buy a suit in synthetic wool myself. After all, these fabrics are very comfortable and who has the time to dry clean ones trousers after every couple of uses.

Please note that prices will be more expensive if it is the real stuff . Price for a good tailor made suit, tailored by a good shop starts from 4,500 baht. If you are buying any cheaper than this, believe me, you will be hauling garbage in your suitcases back to your home, and you wouldn't even know it.

If I can be of any service to you or should you have any questions please e-mail me info@thetruthabouttailors.com
